Darling Home for Kids' annual Wheels fundraiser is set for June 23.

The Darling Home for Kids’ upcoming fundraiser has a new home, and with it new options to support its vulnerable young residents and their families.

Set for June 23 and presented by Mattamy Homes, Wheels has been moved to Kelso Conservation Area. With that comes an expanded itinerary, as organizers have added a 5km hike through the trails and an accessible boardwalk stroll suitable for families.

The more adventurous supporters of the hospice will want to test their mettle along either the 25-, 50- or 100-km cycling routes.

Registration begins at 7 a.m., with a celebration lunch and awards closing things out around noon.

Since its 2011 inception, Wheels has raised $1.35 million for DHK. This has funded capital projects and programming in support of specialized care for medically-complex youth, in turn offering respite breaks for their families.

Those projects include:

  • Building of a wheelchair accessible playground
  • A tranquil therapeutic sculpture garden
  • Cedar-lined clubhouse
  • Renovations to a respite bedroom
  • Expansion of administrative space
  • Purchase and installation of a new Rhapsody bathtub and hygiene chair
  • Purchase of a wheelchair accessible van
  • Hydrotherapy program
  • Multi-sensory therapy program
  • Pet therapy program
  • Family support program
