Starting school can bring many anxious moments for child and parent alike.

Halton Student Transportation Services hope to alleviate the worries of one aspect of that big day, with its annual First-Time Rider Safety Program.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, HSTS and local school bus operators will welcome young students and their parents/guardians for an introduction to school bus safety.

At sessions held across Halton, participants will learn how to get safely on and off the bus, proper school bus behaviour, best practices for crossing the street to get to a waiting bus and overall school bus safety.

Sessions will include a classroom presentation, with a special video and demonstration on a school bus.

Those interest must register by August 22 for one of the following locations

  • St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School (1145 Bronte St. South, Milton). Register here
  • Georgetown District High School (70 Guelph St., Halton Hills). Register here
  • St. Ignatius of Loyola (1550 Nottinghill Gate, Oakville). Register here
  • Notre Dame Secondary School (2333 Headon Forest Dr., Burlington). Register here
