Milton District Hospital Foundation executive director Katie McMillan (centre) accepts a cheque for $121,604.66 from La Rose owners Maggie and Cosimo Lizzi as MDHF's Vanessa Briguglio and Andrea Cayer look on.

It may have been La Rose’s 40th anniversary gala, but the local hospital had just as much reason to celebrate.

On the heels of officially marking the Italian bakery’s 40th anniversary – after a two-year delay because of the pandemic – the Lizzi family donated a whopping $121,604.66 from the gala to the MDHF.

This marked the highest amount ever raised for the foundation by community partner at a single event.

“Their (Maggie and Cosimo Lizzi) longstanding support has made a lasting impact on healthcare in our community,” said MDHF executive director Katie McMillan. “La Rose exemplifies the true spirit of giving back.”

Along with making donations from their anniversary galas, the Lizzis have contributing proceeds from their bag sales, sponsored the MDHF’s Gift of Health Gala with a sweets station and supported the hospital at various other community events.

All told, they’ve donated more than $400,000 to the foundation.

Said the Lizzis on Facebook, "Without the sponsorships, donations, gifts, attendees, volunteers, friends, and family, this amazing donation could not have been possible. We are so proud to be a part of this community, to live here and work here, to support so many local charities, events, and fundraisers, to help where we can, and to always strive to do better for those in need."
