Coinciding with Police Week in Ontario, celebrated this year from May 12 to May 18, the 64-page report includes a collection of features that highlight key areas of focus and achievement in investigation, support, partnerships, and innovation such as:

  • Auto theft and carjackings
  • Break and enters
  • Drugs
  • Sexual assault
  • Human trafficking, Internet child exploitation, and intimate partner violence
  • Mental health
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and
  • Victim support

The report also provides a snapshot of crime regionally as well as by district. In 2023, the HRPS responded to close to 139,000 calls for service, an increase of 3.3 per cent over 2022. While total reported crime was up 1.1 per cent from 2022, Halton’s overall increase in population resulted in the rate per 100,000 population decreasing by 3.2 per cent.

As one of Greater Toronto’s Top 2024 Employers, the report showcases the Service’s ongoing commitment to One Team – People First, which is rooted in the belief that promoting a strong workplace from within enables the HRPS to serve the fast-growing region first and better.

Overarchingly, the Service’s 2023 Annual Report reflects the priorities laid out in Halton’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan as well as the 2020-2023 Strategic Plan. The 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, which was released last month, will guide the HRPS’ priorities for the next four years.
