A local girl who passed away from cancer two years ago is still making her presence felt as her family continues to fundraise to battle against the rare cancer that took her life.
Addison (Addy) Hill had angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of cancer. She had only just turned 14 when she died, but had already declared that she wanted to help others who were in the same position.
The first annual Team Addy Family Fun Day and 3X3 basketball tournament was conceived and executed in 2022, while Addy was still alive, by Addy’s family, basketball coach, and community members.
Now, Team Addy has set its sights on a new event, A Concert with Addy-Tude! Planned and executed with the help of Riverfest Elora, this concert and festival for all ages is happening at the newly built MacDonald Pavilion, on the grounds of the Elora Centre for the Arts, on October 5.
Doors for this incredible day open at 3 p.m., and the first performance gets underway at 3:45 p.m. Incredible featured performers are Amanda Braam, Kelly McMichael, Jeremie Albino, and The Strumbellas. At 9:30 there will be a performance by Réve and a dance party! Dr. Malkin (Addy’s oncologist) will also say a few words, part way through the evening.
Food trucks at the event include Endless Inspirations Taco Truck, Funnel Cake Dream Truck, and Chien Chaud Gourmet Hotdogs from The Evelyn. There will also be a Snack Station for Kids with candy, chips, cotton candy, popcorn, and non-alcoholic beverages, and a licensed bar for guests 19+.
“By joining us for this special night, you’re not only celebrating Addy’s life, but you’re also making a real difference in the fight against sarcoma. Addy’s dream was to help other kids battling cancer at SickKids, and with your support, we can continue to fund crucial research that gives hope to families facing the unthinkable. Let’s come together, share in her spirit of strength and love, and keep her legacy of ‘Addy-tude’ alive,” said Addy’s mom, Jessica Hill.
Tickets are $75 for adults, and children 12 and under are free with one paying adult. Tickets can be purchased here.
Hill finished, “It’s going to be an incredible evening of live music, great food, and community spirit as we honour Addy’s legacy and raise awareness for sarcoma research in support of SickKids Hospital. Your participation helps keep Addy’s memory alive and supports an important cause. Every ticket sold brings us one step closer to finding better treatments for sarcoma cancer. Thank you for coming.”
